Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Southern Ontario Federal Economic Development Minister Filomena Tassi met with Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath to discuss key issues for of cooperation.
The leaders discussed progress on shared priorities, including infrastructure development and housing and homelessness initiatives. The Prime Minister and the Mayor specifically emphasized the importance of building affordable housing along the Light Rail Transit route. They also discussed the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
Mayor Horwath thanked the Premier for the federal government’s recent investment to support people and communities in Hamilton, including a $23.5 million investment in projects expansion and sustainability of the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport and the investment of 400 million dollars to support the project of the largest in Canada. flat-rolled steel producer, ArcelorMittal Dofasco, to change its steel production process and eliminate coal-fired steelmaking at its facility in Hamilton.
The two leaders agreed to continue working together to build a brighter and stronger future for the people of Hamilton.
