GQEBERHA – Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has been hit by eight years of drought.

And now with some of the major dams in the metro nearing zero capacity, the city is appealing to residents to reduce water consumption.

Up to ten water augmentation projects have been earmarked for relief.

Dams continue to decline at an alarming rate here.

The largest dam in the metro, Impofu has reached less than seven percent.

Rolling blackouts didn’t make things any easier, with water being pumped from smaller reservoirs being affected.

Mayor Retief Odendaal said his administration is trying to do something different with the support it has received from the national government.
